Favorite Toy.

Eleanor's favorite toy recently has been an empty yogurt container and the lid. Here she is playing with it, and almost crawling (she just needs to get her other let around...

Mother's Day

Andy did an excellent job of helping me to celebrate my first mother's day. He had gotten a hint from a little birdie that I wanted a solarweave mei tai, but he wouldn't have been able to get one before mother's day and he wanted me to have something to open. So, he got me a beautiful card from him and a really cute one from Nora. Plus, he got me a nice Irish Cottage teapot, creamer and sugar bowl. And, I got a willow tree Angel of Mine figurine. He also picked up a wonderful Chocolate mousse torte from the Frederick's Bakery in Amherst! Mmmm! Finally, he got me a card to get a flowering cherry tree (or whatever ornamental tree I would like) to put in the front yard.

The rest of the day was also wonderful. Andy made me French Toast for breakfast, and we went to the garden center to get some good potting soil and some herbs (our sage and thyme didn't come back this year). Danielle and Jeff came up and kept Eleanor occupied while I planted some peas, swiss chard and lettuce in the garden and Andy raked some leaves. Overall, it was a great day!

7 Months Old!

The last month has been another great one for Eleanor. Each month just seems better than the previous! We are still struggling a bit with sleep. I don't mind getting up to feed her at night, but lately, she's wanted to eat, then play, then sleep while nursing for the remainder of the night. We are trying to convince her that sleeping is a good thing (if she doesn't sleep at night, she gets pretty cranky the next day).

Eleanor loves to eat. So far, she doesn't seem to be too picky about what foods we give her. She gets rice cereal everyday, and so far we have tried prunes, bananas and pears for fruit and avocados, carrots, winter squash, sweet potatoes and peas. We are planning to try some more grains - millet, barley and oatmeal soon, as well as lots more veggies. So far, I have made all my own baby food. I'm thinking we should probably try some of the pre-made stuff in case we need a meal and we're not home (and forgot to pack something). We will also be trying finger foods pretty soon. She's already played with some peas (I just cut some peas in half and let her play). I think she got a few in her mouth, but they came right back out. Maybe we'll try cheerios or something soon!

Nora is also really working on crawling. She's not crawling yet, but she can hold herself on her hands and knees pretty well. She's also going from sitting onto her belly a lot. She still struggles getting her second leg underneath her, and once that happens, I'm sure she'll take off. For now, she's starting to hitch and is great at rolling and sliding backwards across the floor. Looks like it's time for Andy and I to go get some baby gates!

The eating and playing has made for a lot more work on my part. In addition to the small amount of time it takes to make the baby food, Nora needs baths much more frequently. A few days ago, she did a great job of giving herself orange eyeliner with some sweet potato. That was tricky to get off. We go through lots of wash cloths now!

It's nice that Nora is really finally old enough to start interacting with other children. There are some other kids at the Healing Room that she loves to play with, and our friends from the SNH Mom's group are fun to play with as well. Nora and Martha also had some quality play time yesterday - Martha is just 10 weeks older, and it's very amazing to see the differences (not to mention the very different personalities!). We just still have to keep very close watch because none of the little ones understand gentle when it comes to touching their friends!

Nora seems to be having a bit of separation anxiety right now. She doesn't usually seem to mind strangers holding her, as long as she can see mommy. This is mostly a problem at night. She'll fall right to sleep when we put her in the crib, but as soon as we leave the room, she notices and starts crying. When we walk back in, she stops. Unfortunately, we don't want to go to bed at 6:30pm, and I don't trust her not to roll off from our adult bed, or I'd just put her to bed in our room.

7 months with teddy bear. As usual, it didn't take long before she started trying to eat teddy. This time, though, she actually took his bib off and tried to eat the string.

Close up of Eleanor on the couch. She's just so cute!

Milk beard. She finished nursing and looked at me with a big smile.

Eleanor likes solid food...and her feet!

Feeding Eleanor has been a huge adventure. She gets partway through a meal and then puts her toes in her mouth. Makes for a very messy meal. We have started using the tray, but then she spreads food all over the tray like finger paints. Either way, feeding her is a great adventure! Of course, she always takes her foot out of her mouth when I try to get a photo!

New way to sleep?

Eleanor actually took a nap in her crib today! This has been something I've been trying to do for her afternoon naps for awhile, but she really prefers to sleep on my back in the Ergo baby carrier or in her Bob Stroller (she likes to fall asleep while moving). Anyway, when I went in to check on her after about a half an hour, here is what I found! Poor kid, I didn't wake her up taking the photos, but I did end up waking her up trying to move her because I didn't want her to wake up and realize her leg was stuck! She ended up sleeping on my back while I did some housework. The amazing thing is that she doesn't usually sleep on her belly at all! She sprawl out on her back.

6 Month Well Baby Visit

Eleanor's well baby visit was actually last week, but things have been pretty busy here so I haven't had time to blog. She was just over 27 inches long (90th percentile) and just over 17 pounds (75th percentile). Sorry I don't have the exact numbers. The nurse didn't write them down for me, and I forgot to ask! She's in the same range as usual. Still no teeth, although we are back to drooling lots, so who really knows. I'm in no rush for teeth to come in! She is able to get up on her hands and knees and rock a bit, so I don't think it will be too long before she is crawling.
