March indoor and outdoor fun

St. Patrick's Day in the morning. Playing with her Tag reader and wearing a green diaper. She looked very cute and very silly with the headband on!

Some mid-March warm weather had us outside riding trikes and ride-on toys. There was still quite a bit of snow on the sidewalk, so I walked up and down the road with the kids so they could ride, and each warm day I'd shovel some of the snow off the sidewalk and toss it onto the grass in the sun where it would melt quickly!

Morning pigpile. This happens pretty regularly.
Finger painting! At first, both girls started off being very careful and serious.

Then, as they got into it, they both got messy. Nora's hands were totally covered.
Beth's face and hands got totally covered.
Beth has been very interested in trying to dress herself. She's still been unsuccessful in getting a shirt or pants on without help. She can get socks and shoes on by herself now though. She does like to pile on the dresses and walk around.
Beth's first pigtails. Super cute little girls she's turning into!

Nora's first big haircut

For awhile, I've had a friend come over (or I would head to her house) and she would cut my hair and trim Nora's. My friend G asked if we were interested in a mommy-older daugther date with her hairdresser and it sounded like fun. Nora had never been in a salon, and both of us really needed hair cuts. Nora's hair had become totally unmanageable between the curls and the length. It was just in constant tangles and there were tears every time we brushed her hair!

She did really well with her haircut. She wanted it cut short like daddy's, but we convinced her to go a bit longer than that.  It looks great now, takes much less time to brush, and best of all, no tears!

Here's a before image. Long curls that were very cute, but very unmanageable.
At the salon with her friend. The "goofball twins." They were both extremely well behaved the whole time we were there!
A photo from the day after her haircut. She looks a bit Shirley Temple like, brushing her hair took nearly no time and no tears, and she was very happy!

Kids are cute!

Nora and Beth have both started waking us up in the morning. Beth will shout "mama" from her room until someone goes and gets her. It's really cute, but not at 4:45am!

Nora gets up and comes into our room. She's been doing this for months. BUT the last growth spurt has allowed her to reach the light switch in our bedroom. She looks out her bedroom window and if it's light out, she comes into our room, turns the light on and says "the sun is awake, time to get up!" Again, really cute, and very sweet. Sometimes she'll climb into bed and cuddle for a few minutes before turning the light on.

Beth has reached the age where she likes to name everything. So, at dinner we hear "mama fork, daddy fork, Nowa fork, my fork (sometimes it's Bef's fork)" as she points to each person's fork. Repeat with spoon, chair, plate, and shirt. Then, she points out when an item on your plate is "all done."

It's these cute little things that are helping me make it through the end of winter!

Science Fun - Oil and Water

The food color I have is water soluble, but not very oil soluble. So...I put some food color, oil and water in a soda bottle and had Nora shake up the bottle. She got a "green" bottle and an "orange" bottle which separated into blue/yellow and burgundy/yellow (she chose the food color choices). We spend a long time shaking the bottles, making waves and watching the water bubbles float through the oil!

shake shake shake

more shaking

now some waiting

blue food color - partially separated

pretty much all separated

shaken just a little...notice the bubbles of blue in the oil...

the burgundy bottle...all shook up!

The two bottles, oil and water separated.

Playing with the bottles - making waves, bubbles etc and having a great time!
