What a strange girl!

Tonight, Nora, Danielle and I went out to dinner. I had a few lemon wedges in my iced tea and Nora was getting bored of the spoon and didn't want any of her own dinner, so I handed her a lemon wedge, expecting to get some great faces out of it. She made a face initially, but then put the lemon back into her mouth and kept sucking on it! She ate the lemon wedge and then sucked on the rind for quite a while. She even fussed when I took it away. What a strange girl!

Eleanor is 9 months old!

I can't believe my little Nora is 9 months old! She had her 9 month Well-baby visit on Tuesday. We had our first visit with her new Dr, which was nice. The new Dr. takes a much more holistic approach to things and even though she's in family practice, is much better with children! Eleanor was 18lbs 11oz (50%), just over 27 inches in length (50%) and her head was around 18cm (90%). Yes, her head size seems to be from her daddy!

Eleanor is now crawling all over the place and pulling herself up on anything or anyone she can find - including other un-steady children! She's also starting to cruise - especially if it will get her closer to something she knows she's not supposed to touch! Bath time is still one of her favorite times of the day, but it is becoming very challenging. Nora likes to stand up in the bathtub, so we are constantly telling her that standing in the tub is "not ok" and sitting her back down.

Nora is still putting everything in her mouth. She especially loves wet washcloths and anything made of wood. Good thing we have a few wooden rattles! She's got one tooth on the bottom, and I think the second tooth is about ready to make an appearance (sometimes you can see it, sometimes the gums are swollen around it).

Eleanor does seem to be afraid of pets. This morning when a cat meowed at her, she started crying and a few weeks ago while Andy and I were at a Sox game, a dog sniffed her feet and she really freaked out. Poor thing. Guess we will have to start introducing her to animals more often.

Nora still has lots of separation anxiety, but she will crawl away from me when she's feeling comfortable somewhere. This has been both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, when she was attached to her mum, I knew she wouldn't wonder off, but she'd follow me with big crocodile tears crying "MAAAAAA MAAAA" if I went more than a few feet away. Now it's nice because I sometimes have a little more freedom, but I have to really watch where she goes.

I'll have to come back and post the photos later.

Crawling!

Here is a short video of Eleanor Crawling. As you can see, she really wanted the camera!

Life has been interesting since Eleanor has started crawling. The baby gates and some of the bedroom doors now have to remain closed for safety. She's also pulling herself up quite well - which means table tops must be cleared off - or Nora will do it for you! She's already emptied a CD shelf and some toy shelves at a friends house!

New completed craft projects

I got a great pattern to crotchet my own diaper soaker/cover. It's really cute, and crotchet's up quickly. Here is Eleanor modeling the cover for me.

My wonderful Mother in law made me a mei tai. It's really pretty and very lightweight. I'm sure it will get a lot of use! I've already figured out how to get her on the front and back. Next up, is figuring out the hip carry. That one doesn't look too hard either. And yes, I admit it, I'm becoming a babywearing addict. I love slings and baby carriers - they make life so much easier when you have a little one who loves to be held or at least in contact with mummy.

8 Months Old!

Eleanor is 8 months old! She's still growing like a weed and is a pretty happy baby. She is still a perfect example of a scientist - exploring the world around her. She has recently gotten quite good at pulling herself up. At a friends house, she would pull herself up along the shelves of toys just to empty the shelves off. She will crawl when she's really angry, but otherwise resorts back to commando crawling or log rolling.

Eating is still fun. She had a small boycott of all orange foods, but today she gladly ate carrots. She's gotten quite good at self feeding - with cooked carrots, bananas, avocado and Cheerios. One of her favorite foods is carrots, peas and spinach all mixed together. It doesn't taste bad, but it's an interesting green color...

She seems to be going back to a three nap routine - with the first nap around 7:30 or 8am. Maybe that's because she's wearing herself out trying to crawl and stand! We've got a pretty good daily routine going, but it does make it difficult to do a lot during the day. It will be even more difficult soon, as I plan to add a third meal (breakfast). As she gets slightly neater eating, it gets easier to bring her out during mealtime.

Here she is at 8 months sitting in the high chair.

The standard Nora next to Teddy photo. This month, she put her hand on teddy, but didn't try and eat him! She was actually more interested in smiling at the camera!

Stretching before the big race?

Yes, all she's wearing is a diaper and a ruffled diaper cover. It was 100 degrees outside, so we stayed inside to try and stay cool. She enjoyed pulling herself up all afternoon!

I had put her down in the middle of the family room, a few minutes later, she was peaking at me from the couch!

After I took the monthly teddy photo, I sat her on the carpet. She stood up and tried to get the teddy...but once again, the smiling at camera won out!

Eleanor is Mobile!

Eleanor started crawling. Not just the "commando" crawling she had been doing, but up on hands and knees crawling. She does 3-4 "steps" then falls on her belly. Should make for a very interesting weekend!

New Car

We traded in this

For this!

The orange and the green

Eleanor has been getting to try lots and lots of different orange and green vegetables.

Here she is grinning for the camera after eating some spinach for the first time. She liked the spinach, but was tired and ended up getting it all over!

And here she is showing off her finger-painting skills with some carrots!

Don't know if you've ever heard of the song "The Orange and The Green," it's and Irish tune...

Passport

We got Eleanor's passport in the mail yesterday. It's amazing how in just 2.5 weeks (yup, that's all it took) she looks so different! Here is her passport photo (this image isn't cropped to 2x2, but you get the idea). Now, we don't have to worry about whether it will arrive in time for my sister's wedding cruise!

Happy mommy, happy baby!

Well, it's been awhile since I've posted, but not for lack of news! Eleanor is having great fun exploring the world around her. She's still not crawling yet, but is very close. She spends lots of time on her hands an knees and can "commando" crawl right now. Lots of times we see her doing yoga - downward dog and plank for those that know yoga positions. It's pretty funny.

She had a few nights of really bad sleep, but is now back in a great pattern. She goes down around 7pm and gets up at around 7am, with 1 wake up in the night for food. I cannot complain about that. She's a heavy wetter though, so if she doesn't wake up before 3am to eat, she usually ends up needing a complete change of cloths. We usually use a heavily stuffed pocket diaper at night, but she leaks out the legs and up the back (or the front now, since she started sleeping on her belly). We started putting a wool wrap around the diaper, and this has helped. I love when she sleeps well - it makes it so I actually get some sleep, which is very nice!

Some big things she's done: She started clapping - and now she claps all the time. She can make the symbol for "more" especially if she wants more finger foods (like cheerios). The big one, though, is she's learned to pull herself to standing. She had done it a bit when holding onto our hands, but last Saturday night, she pulled herself to standing while waiting for the tub to fill with water. I think she really wanted to just climb in because she loves the bath!

Earlier in the day, she tried to stand up, but didn't quite get there.

But when she saw the bath..she stood right up!

Nora has also spent a lot of time lately sucking on her bottom lip. Not sure if it's because she just discovered it, or if it's because of teething (still no teeth yet).

She loves all the different foods we've tried. She'll now only eat avocado if she can self-feed, so instead of mashing it up with a fork, I just cut it into bits and let her feed herself. She also likes to try and feed herself with a spoon and drink from her cup without help.

On a normal day, this is what Nora looks like during a meal.

This was a really neat meal. She didn't wear too much food!

We finally got a clothesline! Andy put it up a few weeks ago and it has been great for drying clothes and, of course, diapers! The sun is one of the best ways to remove stains from cloth diapers, and it's great to not run the dryer whenever it's nice enough out to hang the laundry!
